From Scrubs to Strength Training: Why I Changed Careers in My 40s (and Again in My 50s)

If you told me 15 years ago I’d be coaching women through strength training and nutrition from my garage gym (with two labs at my feet), I wouldn’t have believed you. But here I am, 53 years old and launching something completely new AGAIN!.

I’ve always believed in following your gut, even when it leads you somewhere unexpected. And my career path? Let’s just say it hasn’t exactly followed a straight line.

What started as a love for CrossFit turned into a business and the first big step toward the life I have now

How It Started

Right after high school, I became a dental assistant. But jobs were hard to come by, so I started working in a nursing home while I looked. Turns out, I loved it. That experience led me to become a registered nurse, and I worked in the field for a few years before taking a step back to raise my two boys.

When I went back to work for a bit, I returned to dental assisting—but long hours and family life just didn’t mix. My husband and I both worked crazy shifts, and I wasn’t getting the time with my kids that I wanted. So again, I chose home.

And that’s when the spark for something different started.

How It Shifted

Once my boys got older, I knew I didn’t want to return to nursing or dental work. I had always loved movement and fitness, so I followed that curiosity. I didn’t just start working out—I built a business. I had my own line of fitness equipment manufactured overseas and even sponsored a CrossFit competition for a couple of years. That chapter was wild and fun and taught me more than any textbook ever could.

Eventually, I opened a gym and ran it for five years. When I sold it, I started doing personal training out of my garage. It gave me the flexibility I wanted and kept me connected to the work I loved most, helping people feel strong again. Then I added in nutrition, completing my Macros Mentorship Certification so I could give my clients a more complete approach to health.

And nom, I’m taking it online.

Why I’m Here Now

I work with women over 40 who are navigating the same stage of life I’m in—dealing with fatigue, weight gain, hormonal shifts, and that frustrating feeling of being disconnected from your body. Strength training and nutrition changed everything for me, and now it’s my mission to help other women feel strong, confident, and in control again.

It’s never too late to shift directions. Whether it’s your body, your mindset, or your whole damn career.
